Lash growth cycle explained

It's so important that as a lash technician you understand The Lash great cycle so that you're able to explain to your clients why an eyelash extension may fall out with a natural lash attached to it!

During the anagen phase, which is the active growth phase, lashes are nourished by blood vessels and can grow up to 1 centimeter in about 30-45 days.

Next, we have the catagen phase, also known as the transition phase. This phase lasts for about 2-3 weeks and is when the lash follicle starts to shrink. The lash stops growing and detaches from the blood supply, preparing for the next phase.

Finally, we have the telogen phase, also known as the resting phase. This is when the lash is fully grown but not actively growing anymore. The lash remains in this phase for the remained of it's growth cycle before naturally shedding. On average, we shed 1-5 lashes per day, making way for new lashes to grow in their place.

It's important to note that each individual lash is in a different phase of the growth cycle at any given time, which is why we experience a continuous cycle of lash shedding and regrowth.

So if you have a client that is worried about eyelash extensions falling out when there is a natural lash attached to, it if you have applied the Lash extensions correctly then the natural lash will only fall out with an eyelash extension attached to it if the natural lash has come to the end of its growth cycle and it's ready to shed so you can reassure them that this is completely normal!
